Day 4: Wednesday, 12/31

Start: Tucumcari, NM (I-40 exit 335)
End: Flagstaff, AZ (I-40 exit 198)
States: New Mexico, Arizona
Distance: 510 miles
Time: 11 hours, 30 minutes
Hotel: Motel 6
Meals: continental breakfast, Quizno's in Albuquerque, Strombolli's in Flagstaff
Overheard on the two-way radio:
Jeannie: Those mountains look like anthills.
David: Be careful not to disturb the 50-foot ants.
Crosstalk on the two-way radio:
Look at that Penske. It has no trouble going 75, and it doesn't have holes in it like our truck.
Letdown of the day: The Rio Grande. Not so grande. It's maybe 40 feet across and 4 feet deep in Albuquerque. No canyons, no rushing waters, just a quiet creek.
Missed attraction of the day: Petrified Forest National Park We got there just after closing. We didn't even get to see any wild coyotes.
Holiday ignored: New Year's Eve. Apparently there was a party somewhere in Flagstaff. We just watched a tape-delayed showing of the NYC ball dropping and went to sleep.
